7 Trends from the Salone del Mobile

More than 262,000 visitors, over 20,000 steps per day – the Salone del Mobile is an event of superlatives. At the fair, in the showrooms and in the city's neighbourhoods, Milan breathes and lives pure design during the Salone week. We were there and have compiled the most important themes and trends for 2022 for you.

SEVENTIES FEVER: THE 70IES ARE BACK

Not only the colours - rust, bordeaux, camel or mustard yellow - and patterns were to be discovered in numerous collections, but also the shapes and materials of the decade are omnipresent - and thus also various new editions of well-known classics. At Acerbis, for example, we saw the "Storet" chest of drawers by Nanda Vigo in striking pink and Poltrona Frau focuses on luxurious nubuck leather alongside typical 70ies minimal prints.

NATURAL STONE IN THE LEADING ROLE

Marble, quartzite, travertine and co. were shown in Milan in all conceivable colour nuances. From the coffee table at Minotti to the dining table made of luxurious Patagonia marble at Casamilano – the solid materials show themselves versatile and are not only real eye-catchers thanks to their fine workmanship, but also offer a great haptic experience.

THE SHAPES OF THE SOFAS ARE ROUND AND DEEP

In the wake of 70s influences, very deep leather sofas such as the quilted «Twiggy» model by Rodolfo Dordoni for Minotti or the new edition of the B&B Italia classic «Le Bambole» are just two examples in the field of seating furniture that caught our eye in Milan. Matching these are the coffee tables, also very deep, inspired by Japan.

THE COLOUR SURPRISES: WHITE AND GREEN

The omnipresent shades of green (incidentally also in the form of real plants) are among the trend colours of 2022, along with the surprise colour white, and prove changeability - and therefore correspond precisely to the spirit of the times. White, from the Fat Cord sofa at Cor to the leather at Minotti – whose entire collection was brighter than ever – is used in diverse materialities just like green.

THE GO-TO: LIGHT WOOD

In keeping with the fine and often slightly muted colour tones, in 2022 wood shows itself in light nuances. Whether at Molteni or Rimadesio, in system furniture or in the outdoor sector, the designers seem to agree that light wood – even in solid versions – promises timeless modern lightness.

CHEERS FOR CERAMICS

Ceramics have been experiencing a revival for some time now. In addition to various objects that could be seen everywhere at the fair and in the brands' showrooms, we found the ceramic tiles used as wall coverings a very exciting and surprising element.

OUTDOOR FURNITURE CONQUERS THE MARKET

The last few years have clearly given wings to this trend: Outdoor furniture is the big high-flyer in countless collections. We particularly liked the creations of the Spanish brand Kettal with light teak in combination with powdery colours and woven elements. The creations by Varaschin with transparent elements were also convincing.
