An endless sky above pristine steppes, the pulsating energy of the souks, the earthy connection to untouched nature – Africa's heartbeat, the unforgettable landscapes, the colours, the smells and the sheer force of nature enchant everyone who leaves their footprints there.
One of them is Markus Benz, CEO of the German furniture manufacturer Walter Knoll and a passionate traveller to Africa. His fascination for the multi-layered continent has inspired the family businessman to create a unique collection: «Legends of Carpets» are summer dreams turned into carpets, imbued with the magic of Africa.
Together with artist and textile designer friend Helmut Scheufele, he set out from the souks of Marrakech to the steppes of Namibia and Botswana to capture the essence of the continent with his camera. Back at home, Helmut Scheufele translated the collected impressions into abstract paintings in his studio, from which timeless, hand-knotted works of art emerged.

Travel with us into the world of the «Legends of Carpets», where every carpet tells its own story and every fibre holds a piece of Africa. Under poetic Swahili names like JIONI, TEMBEA, KIWARA or MWAMBA, these carpets carry wisdom passed down through generations, filling them with depth and meaning. Hand-knotted in certified factories in Nepal, where only experienced weavers process Tibetan highland wool, the finest Chinese silk and the yarn of nettle fibres, each of these carpets is unique and guarantees an ecological and social approach to people and nature.
