Felipe Pantone × POLTRONA FRAU
For the 110th anniversary of the Italian furniture manufacturer Poltrona Frau, the street artist and artist of the moment, Felipe Pantone, designed one of the company's icons, the «Archibald» armchair, in its typical colourful and digitally inspired aesthetics. Zingg-Lamprecht was allowed to present the only one of these objects in Switzerland, limited to 110 pieces worldwide.
Street artist meets traditional house: for the 110th anniversary, the Spanish artist Felipe Pantone dipped the «Archibald» armchair in a colourful dress for the Italian upholstered furniture company Poltrona Frau. Only the most important partners worldwide were given the honour of offering their customers one of the «Archibald Anniversary Limited Edition» armchairs, limited to 110 pieces worldwide. Zingg-Lamprecht was the only partner in Switzerland and accordingly proud that the colourful collector's item was purchased after only a few minutes by Manuel Grenacher, founder and CEO of the software company Unique in Zurich.
However, Grenacher only realised how coveted the armchair really is when the Zingg-Lamprecht team told him at the handover in his Zurich office that even fans from Australia had called the showroom in Zurich to get hold of one of the coveted pieces. The reason for the hype surrounding the «Archibald» is the collaboration between Poltrona Frau and the Valencia-based artist Felipe Pantone. The latter has made a name for himself not only as a street artist, but also in the field of contemporary art - and now has a global fan base.
Manuel Grenacher was also familiar with the artist's name, because «he has been working in the digital environment for many years», and there is no getting around Felipe Pantone. Thus, the artist's creations are characterised by digital influences and live from the play with illusions and the boundaries between sharpness and blurriness. In the design of the Anniversary Edition, Pantone also plays with this contrast between clear colour fields on the leather and the chair legs in iridescent chrome steel, which change colour depending on the incidence of light.
«For me, this armchair symbolises the perfect symbiosis between digital aesthetics and high-quality craftsmanship», explains Manuel Grenacher during the handover by Zingg-Lamprecht. «The colours in pixel form fit my company exactly and reflect what we stand for. Pixels are my world»,laughs the Zurich entrepreneur. Having grown up in a carpenter's workshop, good craftsmanship and interior design in general are very important to him. Grenacher has a long friendship with Zingg-Lamprecht and its CEO, Stan Novakovic.
